Big Wild Superdream Vinyl Record
We’re reprising something we started back in 2024 which was referred to as “What We’re Listening to Wednesday”.
But now, we’re just calling it “What We’re Listening To”, because as a small business owner and mom, that’s too much responsibility to keep up to haha.
BUT for this week — You turn my 6’s to 9’s.
Think about that — it’s the feeling when someone turns your frown upside-down. A special person brings a little light into your day, when it may have been a little darker when it started.Â
Typically, to friends who haven’t listened to Big Wild, I describe this album as the perfect “Sunday Morning Tunes” – something you put on that is happy, easy on the ears and has an energetic beat that doesn’t overwhelm you. It makes me smile and dance while making breakfast, doing dishes, and feeding my baby on the weekends.Â
The song “6’s to 9’s” is the song that introduced me to Big Wild. Conceptually, the song is about forming a deep and passionate connection with someone. It speaks to how passionate emotions can make it feel like the mundane aspects of life have been transformed. You feel the expression of desire for their special person and wanting share an intimate moment with them that is transformative and powerful, saying that when they look in each other’s eyes they weaken and love blossoms. The chorus repeated “You turn my sixes to nines” symbolizes this transformation and the heightened emotion between them.
ISN’T THAT BEAUTIFUL?
A number of my friends thought “6’s to 9’s” was a Prince song that was remixed when they first heard it. I think because of the catchy uplifting vocals and harmonization – the production is fantastic. But don’t get held up on this one song, the entire album is one that NEVER needs a “skip next”.Â
For my friends who love RĂśFĂśS DU SOL, it’s a similar production and project style. Jackson Stell is an American electronic producer, songwriter, vocalist and sound engineer who uses multiple instruments and technology.
What We Loved About It
- Multi-Genre Fusion: Big Wild, also known as Jackson Stell, blends electronic beats with indie-pop melodies. It creates a distinctive sound that appeals to Indie, House, and Electronic music lovers as well as people who just love happy tunes. His ability to fuse various genres together sets “Superdream” apart from conventional electronic albums.
- Emotional Depth: Superdream gives vibes of self-discovery, love, and personal growth – it just resonates. Each track hits on different emotions and experiences, allowing listeners to connect with the music on a deeply personal level.
- Innovative Production: Stell’s production skills are top notch and it shows throughout the album, with velvety layers of synths, beats, and samples creating a rich journey.Â
- Catchy Hooks and Memorable Choruses: “Superdream” is filled with catchy hooks and memorable choruses that stick with you. Two melodic tracks are “City of Sound” and “Heaven”. They’re not only beautiful and harmonious, but you’ll find yourself singing them throughout the day. I’m a HUGE fan of music that has a catchy melodic beat and minimal, but impactful (Green Coast Co. is heavy on impactful minimalism) vocals.
- Collaborations: He collaborates with various artists on the album, adding diversity and depth to the music. Notable collaborations include Rationale on “6’s to 9’s” and iDA HAWK on “Alley-Oop,” each bringing their own unique style to the table.
- Visual Aesthetics: Beyond just the music, “Superdream” is accompanied by stunning visuals that enhance the listening experience. Look it up on YouTube! The videos are GREAT. For real, from the album artwork to the music videos, every visual aspect is carefully crafted to complement the music and immerse listeners in Big Wild’s creative vision. And we really respect creative vision around here.
- Live Performance: Big Wild’s live performances elevate the music to new heights, with energetic performances and live instrumentation adding an extra layer of excitement and vigor.Â
Not to mention – the pressed vinyl is mega cool (check out the photo at the top of the blog).
When you find an album that just HITS – whether through headphones or live experiences, you need to add it to the collection.
